The Fisheries Department has announced the new Total Allowable Catch for West Coast Rock Lobster and recreational fishing.
Fisheries Minister, Barbara Creecy, says a TAC of 837 tons has been determined for the 2020/21 fishing season.
She says the impact of COVID-19 on the industry has been considered and as well as
the depleted status of the West Coast Rock Lobster resource.
Creecy says the virus has had a negative impact on market demand with losses being incurred by the crayfish sector.
The 2020/21 TAC is a reduction of 22 percent from last season.
She says the Department will apply limits to restrict the number of fishing days with commercial and small-scale fishing sectors authorised to undertake fishing for four months."https://scontent-jnb1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/122350733_3654852021233822_2858248306767732106_n.jpg?_nc_cat=101&ccb=2&_nc_sid=8024bb&_nc_ohc=LIQu1V-OyHcAX_f1i0O&_nc_ht=scontent-jnb1-1.xx&oh=d689d959a4dd3137342b85b6cd071e4a&oe=5FB76506"
