Police in Gauteng round up 157 suspects wanted for offences relating to gender-based violence during the latest operation #OkaeMolao #EndGBV GAUTENG - The Provincial Commissioner of police in Gauteng, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela has commended the detectives for continuing to give gender-based violence and femicide cases priority attention, hunting
down all those who are wanted and bringing them to book.
This comes after Lieutenant General Mawela, joined by MEC for Commun ity Safety in the province Ms Faith Mazibuko, led O Kae Molao Operation on Thursday, 22 October 2020 in Orange Farm, after which 157 suspects were arrested across the Province.
"These arrests should send a strong message to men, that women must be respected, without their rights being violated.
Gauteng police will intensify the raiding of wanted suspects of gender-based violence and femicide cases, "said Lieutenant General Mawela.
In the meantime, the other Districts also conducted parallel operations which resulted in the arrest of over 1028 suspects on various charges.
Stolen motor vehicles were recovered in De Deur, Vereeniging, Booysen and Sophiatown
during compliance inspections at scrapyards and second hands goods dealerships.
A number of fines were issued to owners and operators for non-compliance.
The arrested suspects will appear in various Magistrate's Courts in due course.
