Pair arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition NORTH WEST - In a bid to remove Firearms from the wrong hands, the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Covid-19 team has on Saturday, 17 October 2020, arrested two male suspects aged 23 and 27 for possession of unlicensed firearm and
unlawful possession of ammunition.
It is alleged that at about 11:00, members were conducting a roadblock on the N12 road just outside Stilfontein when a silver grey Toyota Corolla with fou r occupants was pulled off.
The police then searched the vehicle and found a firearm loaded with 16 ammunition.
While the police were busy questioning the suspects, the other two ran across the road and fled into the bushes.
Despite the chase, the duo managed to flee and are still at large.
The arrested suspects are expected to appear in the Stilfontein Magistrates' Court on Monday, 19 October 2020, facing charges of possession of unlicensed firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition.
The District Commissioner of Dr Kenneth Kaunda, Major General Suzette Pretorius lauded the
team and reiterated Police Minister's call of surrendering all unwanted and illegally possessed Firearms, ammunition and firearm parts during the Firearm Amnesty period that will end on 31 January 2021.
