A community thanksgiving ceremony is underway at the Theewaterskloof Dam Wall near Villiersdorp in the Overberg.
The Western Cape's biggest dam and main water source for the Cape Metro and surrounding areas is overflowing for the first time in a decade due to good rains during the winter season.
The recovery of
the dam since 2017 has been near miraculous when it declined to a level of below 13%.
Western Cape Agriculture Minister Ivan Meyer says the drought has taught communities to be more responsible when using water.
The event is taking place amid strict adherence with Covid-19 lockdown regulations."https://scontent-jnb1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-0/p526x296/122031516_3640989365953421_7411944694429134819_n.jpg?_nc_cat=106&_nc_sid=110474&_nc_ohc=GzFk4qMDB6kAX_gW8uS&_nc_ht=scontent-jnb1-1.xx&tp=6&oh=7e44e8034cf9aa030609523d3ca7ecbd&oe=5FB312EE","https://scontent-jnb1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-0/s235x165/122073523_3640989439286747_3548103950288870303_n.jpg?_nc_cat=107&_nc_sid=110474&_nc_ohc=lWMpbu-uwkEAX9K5mhH&_nc_ht=scontent-jnb1-1.xx&tp=7&oh=57a2613ed0d3fe8b8cded8f826f44255&oe=5FB084A4","https://scontent-jnb1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-0/s235x165/122051795_3640989539286737_9207831121841119852_n.jpg?_nc_cat=100&_nc_sid=110474&_nc_ohc=BLmk3EIl6koAX9nAvRV&_nc_ht=scontent-jnb1-1.xx&tp=7&oh=a2db9e34d3dddd8373709a0642263f9b&oe=5FB06EA0","https://scontent-jnb1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-0/s235x165/122056464_3640989625953395_8478221438155105430_n.jpg?_nc_cat=104&_nc_sid=110474&_nc_ohc=d1MwzqAyzBUAX8ezIIy&_nc_ht=scontent-jnb1-1.xx&tp=7&oh=d1c02b6c83c166b0b0ed56d2a3852b4b&oe=5FB1EC6B"
