The City of Cape Town says nearly 240 incidents of illegal land invasions have occured in the City over the past three months.
Some of the areas which were affected include Khayelitsha, Du Noon, and Kraaifontein.
Mayoral Committe Member for Safety and Security, JP Smith, says more than 60 000 informal structures
were also demolished during the same period after the City responded to the land grabs.
He was speaking during a virtual sitting of the Western Cape Parliament's Stan ding Committee on Human Settlements: "During July, August and thus far September, the land invasions that we've seen is 238., 28 000 plots cleared, 126 protest actions that followed those land invasions.
We've made 111 arrests and we've issued numerous public statements calling on the criminal justice system to ensure that there is consequences for the people involved in these actions so that we can stem the public violence."
