South African musicians and artists have taken to the streets, marching to Parliament in Cape Town, desperate for government relief and recognition in the wake of the catastrophic consequences of lockdown on the creative sector.
This was the first sector to be shut during lockdown and they will be
the last to reopen.
The financial cost to an industry that contributes billions to the GDP is immense.
The artists say the human cost is incalculable to an industry that has formed the soundtrack to South Africa's history during times of struggle and celebration.
