9 August 2020 , WOMEN'S DAY Pretoria, the year was 1956, around 20 000 South African women of all races staged a march on the Union Buildings in protest against the proposed amendments to the Urban Areas Act of 1950, commonly referred to as the "pass laws" .
The
9th of August was declared a public holiday to recognise the brave stand that these women of all races and backgrounds took against the government that was then in power.
Today, we use the public holiday to remember these remarkable women.
As well as to celebrate the incredible achievements and the tenacious hearts of the fearless women who continue to challenge the norms, advocate for change, and who are steadfast for what they believe in.
