Two suspects are expected to appear in the Grabouw Magistrate's Court today on charges relating to the illegal possession of abalone valued at millions of rand.
The suspects, aged 52 and 59, were arrested at premises in Oudebrug street in Grabouw last week.
Hawks spokesperson Philane Nkwalase says members of their Serious
Organised Crime investigation team, Crime Intelligence and officials from the Department of Forestry and Fisheries raided the illegal abalone facility on Thursday and discovered freshly cooked and abalone as well as processing equipment valued at more than R5-million.
Nkwalase says the abalone and equipment were seized for further investigation.
