Two people have been killed and 15 others sustained serious injuries when a taxi overturned on the N2 near Jakes Gerwel Drive.
Traffic authorities say the taxi driver fled the scene.
The injured patients have been taken to hospital.
All lanes on the highway have been reopened.
In another
accident, one person died when two vehicles collided at an intersection in Athlone.
The emergency and rescue service says the vehicles collided at the crossing of Jan Smuts Avenue and Klipfontein roads.
