The Western Cape secretary of the teachers union, SADTU Jonavon Rustin says they are concerned about the well being of teachers ahead of the expected reopening of schools tomorrow.
This as more cases of non-compliance with the regulations are coming to light.
Grade 7 and 12 learners are the first
to attend school as the country enters level three of lockdown restrictions.
There have been complaints from some schools where the issue of proper sanitization was raised even after
staff had tested positive.
Rustin says the union is conducting daily surveys with its members to determine conditions on the ground.
He says they have reason to believe that in some instances, protocols have not been followed.
Basic Education minister Angie Motshekga is expected to have a press conference later today about the readiness of schools to reopen this week.
