WATCH: Eid ul Fitr, the celebration marking the end of the holy month of Ramadaan, was somewhat subdued.
Usually it is a time for families and communities to come together for celebrations, but during lockdown, this is impossible.
The Salt River Heritage Society, however, decided not to let this difficult time bring
their community down.
The Takbir, an expression of devotion, is usually chanted only in mosques as part of Eid celebrations, but in a bid to lift people's spirits and to celebrate, the two mosques in Salt River agreed that this ancient chant would be done over loudspeakers simultaniously.
According to Yusuf Lalkhen, the chairperson of the Salt River Heritage Society, this has never been done before.
Not even the first major cold front of the winter, that brought cold and rain, could stop residents from participating."https://scontent-jnb1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t15.5256-10/100870918_253964932333930_6259398157944225792_n.jpg?_nc_cat=104&_nc_sid=f2c4d5&_nc_ohc=ppXu6P8T2xgAX_1PmkT&_nc_ht=scontent-jnb1-1.xx&oh=e8a45635fbad6f7c47843f08f05846c7&oe=5EF11AA0"
