The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa, NUMSA says its cannot afford to back out of the wage strike currently underway at SAA.

Together with the South African Cabin Crew Association, the National Union of Metalworkers downed tools after pay


negotiations deadlocked.

NUMSA's Regional Secretary, Mandla Mzwai says it is uo to management to come up with the money to pay for salary increases.

He says workers have rights and must provide for their families.

SAA has offer...ed a 5-comma-9 percent pay hike, while workers want 8 percent.

The matter is now before the CCMA.

Meanwhile in Cape Town, striking SAA workers have braved heavy winds at Cape Town International Airport to protest for a second day against salary increases.
