The family of a 23-year-old woman from Kraaifontein says she is being wrongfully detained in Oman in the Middle East.

Chloe Collins arrived in Oman in April this year to work in the hospitality industry.

She was arrested three weeks later and

held for the past three months.

It is believed her brother's departure from Oman is linked with her arrest.

International Relations says it is in talks with the South African embassy in Oman to get more information on the case.

A family friend and spokesperson, Simone Carolissen, says they need government's assistance, as well as an attorney in Oman to help with the case: "The point of departure is we need assistance of an attorney so we can ascertain what we are

dealing with, then we can take it from there.

We need the government's intervention so that they can just come forth and say these are the resources that are available that you can utilise.

The family is obviously very distraught because their hands are tied financially, they don't have the means to secure the services of an attorney."
