Victims Drive Contra Flow To Avoid Robbers: Umhlanga - KZN The driver of a Mitsubishi Colt bakkie drove contra flow for several kilometers on the R102 from Umhlanga in an attempt to avoid the occupants of a blue VW Golf
that opened fire on their vehicle this morning (Saturday).
Members of Reaction Unit South Africa were called out to the area after receiving reports of a hijacking in progress.
Several Reaction Officers were dispatched and as they approached the Trade Centre off ramp they noticed the bakkie parked on the side of the road.
The two occupants were being assisted by Traffic Police who were conducting random checks on vehicles travelling on the R102.
The victims explained that they were on their
way to purchase stock for their business when the blue VW Golf drove up to the driver's side of their bakkie and opened fire.
One bullet struck the driver's door.
The driver then turned the bakkie and drove contra flow in an attempt to evade the robbers.
The driver and his female passenger were not injured in the shooting.
An extensive search was conducted for the suspects however no arrests were made.
