Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security in the city of Cape Town, JP Smith, has called for community cooperation in weeding out criminal elements. This, as the newly established Neighbourhood Safety Team in Bonteheuwel confiscated Firearms, ammunition and carried

out drug related arrests in a five-day crime blitz in the area.

Smith says the Safety Team focuses on interventions like, stop and search operations, vehicle checkpoints and visible patrols: "Bonteheuwel has long yearned for effective policing and this initiative shows the city's commitment in making the city safer for law abiding citizens of Bonteheuwel and in surrounding communities, I encourage residents to work with our staff to help weed out the bad apples who've been terrorising this

community for far too long.

Our effective policing intervention relies on the information they bring forward."
