7 Year Old Passenger In Hit & Run Vehicle: Verulam - KZN A 7 year old boy was a passenger in a vehicle that failed to stop after his father ran over a stop sign at the steel bridge

on Old Main Road in Verulam this morning (Friday).

At approximately 07:37 a member of Reaction Unit South Africa was driving behind a Toyota Corolla that suddenly veered off the road and knocked into a stop sign (picture 3).

In an attempt to stabilise the vehicle the driver swerved into the opposite lane and nearly collided into the bridge.

The Reaction Officer noticed a child in the vehicle which continued towards Grange without stopping.

The Officer managed to block the vehicle from

travelling any further after the driver stopped at a red robot on High Street.

When questioned he explained that he was from Mahlabatini in Cottonlands and was on his way to drop off his son at Dianthus Primary School.

He further added that the vehicle that he was driving belonged to his mother and did not know how to react after he knocked the stop sign which shattered the windscreen.

The driver was in possession of a valid driver's licence and ownership on the vehicle was verified.

The child was transported to school by a Reaction Officer on request from his father after it was confirmed that he did not sustain any injuries.
