On the 5th July 2019 at about 11:30 an MTN tower in Springs was broken into and high valued batteries were taken in the process.

At about 13:20 JMPD IIOC Officers received information that the batteries that were tracking around the


Hillbrow area.

A joint operation was initiated between IIOC Officers, Crime Intelligent, DAPS Flying Squad and Bidvest Protea Coin to track the cell tower batteries.

The signal led the members to a building along Claim street in Hillbrow were 3 suspects were caught off loading the batteries from a bakkie, 23 cell tower batteries and and a vehicle used in the transportation of the batteries were recovered.

The suspects were charged with possession of stolen property the vehicle seized (used in the


commission of a crime).

There was also cash that was recovered on scene and the estimated value of the batteries is R130000.
