Police Minister Bheki Cele, accompanied by SAPS management, is expected to visit the families of the victims who were shot and killed over the weekend in Philippi East.

At least eleven people were murdered in the township this past weekend.

Six

women were shot and killed in a single incident on Friday night and five more people were killed on Saturday.

The hunt for the suspects involved in the shootings is underway.

Cape Town police have effected a 72-hour lock down in the area.

The operations are conducted by Public Order police, K-9 and Flying Squad members.

The local grouping, Progressive Professionals Forum, says the failure of crime prevention in the area is due to the lack of coordination between the three spheres of

government.

The group has also blamed poor street lighting, lack of roads and proper housing.

Meanwhile, the Western Cape Community Policing Forum Board says it will march to Parliament on Thursday if nothing is done about crime in the province.
