Western Cape traffic authorities say seven people have been killed this weekend on the province's roads.

The fatalities include three pedestrians, two passengers, a driver and a motorcyclist.

Provincial Traffic Chief Kenny Africa says nine motorists have been arrested for drunken


driving.

A further two motorists were arrested for reckless and negligent driving respectively in George and Laingsburg.

Africa says 78 drivers have been prosecuted for speeding.

The highest speed recorded was on the N1 at Beaufort West, when a motorist was caught doing 159km/h in a 120 zone.
