Police union POPCRU has called for unity in the police service in the Western Cape.
This comes as a spike in murders and gangsterism continues to ravage communities.
POPCRU says it is concerned about continued internal infighting in the police.
In a statement,
the union says there are two units established to fight the high crime rate in the province, but they seem to be competing against each other instead of working together.
The one unit, known as the Major Offences Reaction Team, was created by provincial commissioner, Khombinkosi Jula, while the other one is the recently established Anti Gang Unit, which is controlled from the police headquarters in Pretoria.
Popcru says the power struggle will further destruct plans to bring peace and stability
in the Western Cape.
It has called on police Minister Bheki Cele to intervene in the matter.
