Gauteng Police arrest 161 suspects Operation "O Kae Molao"
GAUTENG - Gauteng police have arrested 161 suspects in Sedibeng and Tshwane during Operation O Kae Molao between Wednesday night and Thursday. The suspects were arrested for crime ranging from fraud, robbery, rape, assault, theft, possession of drugs, contempt of court
and malicious damage to property.
The operation commenced with the tracing and arresting of wanted suspects and culminated in the impounding of 13 vehicles at roadblocks on various traffic rule contravention. Police also recovered stolen copper cable to the estimated value of R15000 and mortar cartridge during the raiding of second hand dealerships. A 29-year-old woman was arrested for possession and dealing in drugs after she was found with 13 sticks of nyaope.
Gauteng Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela, led the operation that comprised of various law enforcement agencies and expressed his appreciation for the manner in which the law enforcement agencies partner with the community in reclaiming the streets of Gauteng. "People of Gauteng rely on us
for safety and we need to claim back our streets from criminals, where our communities should feel safe. We want a Province where people live freely without fear of being attacked, robbed and murdered", said Lieutenant General Elias Mawela.
In support of the integrated operations by the law enforcement agencies, Gauteng MEC for Community Safety Ms Faith Mazibuko also called for the community to work closely with the police in the fight against crime. "Crime is fast destroying the moral fiber of our communities and is a major threat to the growth and development of Gauteng. We will only win the fight against crime in our communities when we join hands with law enforcement agencies. We must expose and report the criminals in our families and communities. Stop buying stolen goods", said MEC Mazibuko.
The arrested suspects will appear before respective Magistrate Courts in due course.
