Cape Town Mayor Dan Plato says the city has set aside a substantial budget to employ more law enforcement officers. He says he's concerned about rising crime levels in some areas of the city. Plato has reiterated the call for
more police to be deployed to ensure the safety of communities. Seven people were killed recently in separate incidents in Blikkiesdorp and Samora Machel near Nyanga on the Cape Flats. Six members of the anti'gang unit were also attacked in the area on Wednesday. Plato has, however, warned that the city's budget is not enough to effectively fight crime. He says, " The national minister of police Bheki Cele did release a statement to say he will make sure
that more police officers get channeled to the Western Cape and I hope that will happen as soon as possible."
