Cape Town Mayor, Dan Plato, says he's concerned about rising crime levels in some areas of the city. He's reiterated the call for more police to be deployed to fight crime. Seven people were killed recently in separate incidents in
Blikkiesdorp and Samora Machel near Nyanga on the Cape Flats. Six members of the anti'gang unit were also attacked in the area on Wednesday. Plato's met with residents of Goodwood to discuss their concerns about crime. He says, " I also had an opportunity to talk to some of the senior police officers about spiraling crimes and incidents across Cape Town. We are very worried about it and I want to urge our neighbourhood watches and our residents in
general to stay vigilant." Residents of the area say crimes such as house breaking are on the increase. Plato also says the city has set aside a substantial budget to employ more law enforcement officers, however this is not enough to effectively fight crime. (File pic: Dan Plato)
