Newly elected Western Cape Premier, Alan Winde, has committed his government to intensified service delivery that is informed by issues raised during campaigning. The DA's Masizole Mnqasela and Beverley Schäfer were respectivley elected as Speaker and Deputy Speaker. Winde addressed the legislature shortly after his election. Incoming Premier, Alan Winde,
has promised a strong and determined focus on job creation as one of his most pressing priorities as he accepted his election to the position. This, after defeating ANC premier-elect, Cameron Dugmore who was nominated for the same position. After a secret ballot, Judge President of the Western Cape, John Hlophe announced the results: "The result of the ballot is as follows: Mr Cameron Dugmore 10votes, Mr Alan Winde 24 votes, there were 6 spoilt votes. I can publicly declare Mr Alan Winde duly elected as the Premier of the Western Cape province." The ANC also put up candidates against the DA's nominations for the positions of Speaker and Deputy Speaker. Masizole Mnqasela of the DA was elected
as the Speaker while his deputy is Beverley Schäfer.
Winde addressed the legislature shortly after his election, calling for a common vision in alleviating the plight of the poor: "This parliament has a role to play, whether you are elected as government and whether elected as opposition, and with that I would like to say to every member elected today, we must work together and make sure that we improve the lives of every person in the province. We went out and we were opponents in this campaign and now we going work for the betterment of all the people in this province." Winde is expected to announce his cabinet on Thursday.
