Authorities at George in the Southern Cape have put security measures in place to safeguard Go George buses amid an ongoing taxi strike.
This follows threats of a total shutdown in certain communities. Taxi operators suspended their services last Wednesday in protest over what they call unfair treatment by traffic officials.
Members of the Provincial Traffic Ghost Squad impounded a number of taxis last week. Go George buses are running on a limited service today.
Each bus is accompanied by traffic or law enforcement officials to ensure the safety of passengers, drivers and the vehicles.
A large number of police and law enforcement agencies have been deployed across several hotspots in George to prevent any disruptions.
Thousands of taxi commuters remain without transport.
