Man Found Days After Failed Suicide Attempt: Umhlanga - KZN
A 33 year old male was found lying next to a river four (4) days after he jumped off a bridge in an attempt to commit suicide.
Africa received the call of an injured man lying near a bridge in Umhlanga - KZN at approx 13:45 today (Thursday). The caller informed the Controller on duty that the man was possibly injured by a vehicle.
Reaction Officers arrived in the vicinity of the location provided and walked several hundred meters before locating the man. The victim was found lying on a sand bank and has suffered broken bones and spinal injuries.
When Reaction Officers interviewed the Cornubia
resident, he informed them that he had jumped off the bridge on Monday night after he fought with his girlfriend.
He added that he had lost his job at a call center a month prior and after a domestic dispute with his girlfriend on the said night, he decided to walk to the bridge leading from Umhlanga to the N2 and jumped off in a suicide attempt. The man informed Officers that he intended committing suicide again.
The victim was stabilized on scene and transported via ambulance to Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hospital.
