Watch: Learning has been disrupted at a number of high schools in Bloekombos and Wallacedene in Kraaifontein outside Cape Town.
A numbers of learners have joined in a protest against overcrowding at Bloekombos Secondary.
On Thursday morning, parents and learners
blockaded Old Paarl road in front of the school to highlight their demand for a new high school in the area.
They say the current school has over 2000 learners while it can only accommodate 1200. Up to 80 learners in a classroom makes it just about impossible to educators to do their work and to educate the learners properly.
The Western Cape Education department says it will not build a new school because a new school was opened in
the area in January this year and is being under- utilised. Police are monitoring the situation.
