Police in the Southern Cape are probing separate incidents where three vehicles were set alight in Thembalethu near George early this morning. Two of the vehicles belong to the local municipality, while the third is believed to be privately

owned. The incidents come as taxi operators suspended their services in the area yesterday. They say they are being harassed by members of the Provincial Traffic Ghost Squad who've impounded 40 taxis this week. The Thembalethu Taxi Rank is empty and operators say they will not resume services until the impounded vehicles are released. Meanwhile, thousands of taxi commuters have been forced to walk to work or seek alternative transport.
