City of Cape Town law enforcement and emergency services are continuing to test long distance vehicles for their road worthiness at the Joe Gqabi Interchange in Nyanga.

So far, more than forty busses and taxis have been tested since Monday.


The aim is to ensure the safety of the vehicles ahed of the Easter long weekend.

The interchange is used mostly by people travelling to provinces such as the Eastern Cape. Senior traffic officer Conrad Berg says their chacked are focussing on brakes, lights, mirrors and safety belts.

Traffic volumes are expected to pick up on major routes in the Western Cape this afternoon.
