Five suspects have been arrested in Cape Town when an illegal abalone drying facility was uncovered in Table View. Police say millions of rand worth of the delicacy was also confiscated in a residential house in Circle Road that has

been staked out as part of an intelligence driven operation by various SAPS units. Police say two of the rooms in the house were fully equipped drying rooms with shelves stacked of dried abalone. In the lounge they found various boxes with bags of abalone. Numerous items of equipment such as gas cylinders, burners, fans and scales have also been seized. The suspects aged between 20 and 33 are expected to appear in the Cape Town Magistrate's Court on

Tuesday on charges relating to the Living Marine Resources Act.
