One of only a handful all-MALE comedy ballet companies in the world, from New York, is making their South African debut with performances in Johannesburg and Cape Town over the next few days. The internationally acclaimed show, "Men in Tutus", premièred at Montecasino last night and is on the way
to Artscape next week. The thrilling and hilarious production boats 16 men dancing the roles traditionally reserved for women. The men are all professional dancers from seven countries, with a familiar face - that of the British dancer, Joel Morris, who has on several occasions in the past starred in Joburg Ballet productions. Artistic director and lead dancer of the troupe, Victor Trevino, says the "divas in drag" aim to bring new audiences to dance through comedy. The producers say patrons can expect brilliant choreography, side-splitting humour and specially designed lavish costumes.
