New Zealand police say a man in his late twenties has been charged with murder and will appear in court tomorrow morning. This follows a gun attack at two mosques in the city of Christchurch, which left at least 49 people dead and 20 seriously injured. There are reports alleging
that he had written a manifesto outlining his intentions - and espouses anti-immigrant ideology. Police also defused a number of explosive devices attached to vehicles. Friday prayers had just started at the Al Noor mosque when a gunman entered wearing military gear and opened fire using a semi-automatic weapon. His actions were being streamed live on the internet from a body camera as he moved from room to room shooting indiscriminately. Around 30 minutes after the first incident, shots were then fired at the Linwood Mosque on the other side of the city centre, where ten people were killed. It's not yet clear whether the same gunman was responsible but the police have arrested 4 people, one of whom
is an Australian national who has claimed responsibility online.
