A WARRANT OF ARREST ISSUED - WANTED FOR FRAUD
Ekurhuleni North Magisterial District in Gauteng has issued a warrant of arrest for Abraham Gerhardus Hendrik van Tonder, better known as Otto van Tonder in connection with fraud-related charges.
"Van Tonder is an alleged serial fraudster that has taken multiple deposits from unsuspecting victims for many years. Apart from running his own
schemes, he is also linked to another scheme known as ‘2FundU' which is also the focus of an investigation," Chad Thomas of IRS Forensic Investigations said.
Van Tonder was featured on the television programme Carte Blanche for his alleged crimes, which included taking deposits for cars and houses in an elaborate "peer funding" and "rent-to-own" scheme.
Multiple victims paid funds to Van Tonder, but never received the bond or vehicle funding in the "peer funding" scheme, nor did they receive any vehicle in the "rent-to-own" scheme. Van Tonder was last spotted in Welkom, Free State where he is known to have family.
