DA leader Mmusi Maimane has put emphasis on crime-fighting at the launch of the party's election campaign in Cape Town today. Some areas in Cape Town are experiencing high levels of crime, with crime statistics revealing that more people die due to stabbing in Nyanga than anywhere else in the country, while drug dealers and gangs flourish. Maimane told DA
supporters that there's hope in his party: "But fortunately there's DA, fortunately, "hier kom die ding", fortunately hier is die DA. We are committed to fighting crime in this province under the leadership of Dan Plato. We will be going to every corner, every drug dealer. We will fight crime head on. DA provincial leader, Bonginkosi Madizela, has urged the party's supporters not to be distracted and focus on retaining the province after next year's general election. Madikizela who failed to make it as a Premier candidate says the party's supporters must not be deterred by those who see race in everything: "Those people who will be using race to try and divide us colleagues, we must understand that we are the only party in SA that is bringing together people from different backgrounds. That is not a weakness, that is our strength and therefore I want you to understand that what is at stake is our country."
