A 30 year old man was apprehended after he attempted to flee a supermarket situated on Gopalall Hurbans Road in Tongaat in Tongaat with R450 worth of meat this afternoon (Saturday).
Members of Reaction Unit South Africa were called out to the store after the suspect was apprehended. Upon arrival it was established the suspect had purchased meat at the same store yesterday.
He returned with his 10 year old nephew and proceeded to the butchery and selected meat to the value of R450. He then attempted to walk out of the store without paying when he was stopped by Security Officers.
When questioned he produced a cash sale slip for the meat he had purchased yesterday. While being interviewed he abandoned his nephew and fled the store. Security Officers pursued and apprehended him.
The suspect is a known drug user and it is believed that he was going to sell the meat and profits from the sale were going to be used to purchase drugs.
