One person has been killed and three other people were injured following a shooting on Gopalall Hurbans Road in Tongaat - KZN a short while ago.
Reaction Unit South Africa received several calls from the public reporting multiple shots being fired at the Nedbank intersection. Upon arrival Reaction Officers found a VW Polo had crashed into a tree on the side
of the road. The driver was slumped over the passenger.
He had sustained a gun shot wound to his back and died at the scene. Two other occupants in the vehicle had also sustained gun shot wounds and were treated by paramedics from a private ambulance service.
A fourth person was found with a gun shot wound to his face approximately one kilometre away from the scene in the vicinity of the Tongaat Crematorium.
Reaction Officers have received several different versions of what had occured. Initially it was alleged that the VW Polo was involved in a cash in transit robbery. The RUSA Helicopter took off to assist Officers on the ground to search of further suspects. It was later estbalised that there was no cash in transit robbery that had occured.
A second version received was that the VW Polo was being pursued by a Toyota Hilux bakkie when the occupants of the car opened fire on the bakkie. The occupants of the bakkie returned fire and shot the four men in the VW Polo. One of the injured passengers fled towards Plein Street where he was located by Police.
It is alleged that the shooting could also be related to taxi violence. Police are currently on scene and are investigating.
