Cape Town Metro Police have arrested two men for allegedly being in possession of a stolen car and for knocking over a Metro police officer in an effort to evade the authorities in Mitchell's Plain. Metro Police spokesperson, Ruth Solomons says their Gang and Drug Task Team received information about a vehicle that was involved in several reported house break-ins and where the vehicle can be found. When officers tried to stop the vehicle, the driver refused and while trying to get away, he ran over a Constable before heading into oncoming traffic. Solomons says the suspects were travelling with two boys aged three and eight years old. "The suspects were arrested and charged with attempted murder, possession of suspected stolen property, reckless and negligent driving including child endangerment and detained at Mitchell's Plain SAPS. A social worker visited the police station and assisted the officers with safe placement for the children with immediate family and/or friends. The Constable sustained a fractured foot and arm and was discharged from hospital after receiving treatment."
