Beaufort West Mayor, Noel Constable, says the municipality is taking urgent steps to resolve sewerage blockage in the town, which is creating a severe water shortage. Constable says a truck is due to arrive from George this afternoon to remove large rocks in the sewer system. The town is facing a water crisis due to the ongoing drought, with reservoirs standing at 20 percent. Recent rains in the province have had no real impact on water levels in the town. Water supply from five boreholes dug in January, has since dwindled, with only one still producing water. He has asked residents to be patient while the blockage is rectified. "Its only temporary, because of the sewerage blockage in one of our main sewer systems because of some rocks in the system. Some of the areas like Hospital Heuwel and Hillside and other far areas are currently out of water. The municipal workers are busy supplying relief to people where there is no water."
