Durban south Operation Fiela nets 14 arrests in 8 hours
Ethekwini Outer South Cluster members came together and held an operation on the 5th July 2018 between 2pm to 10pm to address the crime that had a noticeable increase, over the past week in Umlazi, Isipingo, Bhekithemba and Kwamakhuta areas. 45 police members with 22 police vehicles were committed to ensure their presence in various hot spot crime areas were felt. They held 12 blue light patrols and 3 road blocks. 145 persons and 87 vehicles were searched during the operation.
The operation involved strategies in areas to address crimes influenced by drugs and liquor. Five(5)arrests were made for Possession of Dagga, three (3) arrests made for Possession of Heroin and one(1) arrest for Dealing in Liquor without a license. Four (4) arrests were also made for Assault GBH and one (1) for Possession of a Dangerous Weapon.
The objective of the operation was to reduce crime. Members were focusing on preventing serious crime and to ensure the safety of the public and their property. They also continued throughout the operation doing stop and searches in hotspots, in the hope of finding more dangerous weapons or any illegal and unlicensed Firearms. They enforced the Road Traffic Act, Liquor Act and Drug Act during the operation.
The operation was a success in deterring any criminals in Umlazi, Isipingo, Bhekithemba and Kwamakhuta with no serious crime reported during the operation.
Acting Ethekwini Outer South Cluster Commander, Brigadier Vukani Mgobhozi said, "We are committed to continue to have focused operations addressing serious crime within the hotspots in the Cluster. We are also targeting crime generators such as alcohol and drug abuse. There will be continuous Fiela operations throughout the holiday season. This will certainly make a valuable contribution to impacting crime as a whole."
