Elderly Couple Targeted BY Robbers Twice Within Hours: Riet River - KZN A member of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) came under fire during a house robbery in progress on Neptune Drive in Riet River - KZN at 11:53 today (Wednesday).
The property was targeted by a gang of
approximately eight men in two vehicles within a three (3) hour period.
At 07:52, Reaction Officers responded to the property after the suspects to rob an elderly couple.
The female victim managed to locked the door and raise the alarm when the suspects fled.
Nearly three hours later, a Reaction Officer was returning from a callout when he noticed the group of males getting into a two different Hyundai vehicles (models and registrations unknown).
One of the suspects fired a shot in the direction of the RUSA Member before they sped off.
The Officer was forced to stop and assist an elderly male who was bleeding excessively from an injury to his head.
According to the 77 year old, he had just returned home with
his 75 year old wife when they were confronted by the robbers for the second time.
They assaulted the male victim with the butt of a firearm and forcefully removed the female's gold earrings while pinning to the ground.
They noticed other members of the family in the house when they fled.
They fired at the Reaction Officer as they made their getaway.
The elderly couple were transported to hospital for injuries they sustained.
Reaction Officers conducted and extensive search for the gang however no arrests were made.
