A young dancer from Johannesburg, 13 year- old Nico Prinsloo, has won the prestigious Geung Soo Kim special award at the ninth annual South African International Ballet Competition in the Mother City.
The prize of ten- thousand rand recognised the Most Promising Local Dancer at this year's contest.
South Africa won eight
medals in total of which two Gold went to Prinsloo.
Another Gautenger, 14 year-old Zeinab Kone also won a special prize, the Blacks In Ballet award for his performance at the competition.
Ten countries, including China, South Korea, Mongolia, Latvia and Nigeria took part via video link, with dancers from among other Russia, Cuba and South Africa taking to the stage at Artscape in Cape Town.
Cuba bagged the most gold medals namely four.
Dancers from six to 19 years old have entered for this year's contest.
