Bogus Plane Crash Reported: Durban - KZN Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received several calls from various Emergency Services in the Durban & surrounding area requesting assistance in verifying if a small plane had crashed in the Mt Moreland/Waterloo area in Kwazulu Natal.
The first call for assistance was
received at 14:45 from a private ambulance service looking to confirm if a plane had crashed into a home.
The second call was received a few minutes later from a Journalist who was looking for information regarding the location of the scene.
A Paramedic from a private Search & Rescue Unit then contacted Reaction Unit SA at 14:59 (Tuesday) looking for the location of a plane that was reported to have crashed into a home.
Reaction Officers and Medics searched the area extensively and no crash was located.
According to information received via these Emergency Services, a female residing along the coast in Durban - KZN reported that she witnessed a plane go down.
RUSA Officers had no direct contact with the witness and
could not verify any details provided.
Reaction Officers made contact with Air Traffic Control (ATC) in several areas & Controllers then checked with other airports.
No light aircrafts were reported missing.
