Art collectors from around the world are expected to take part in a Cape Town auction tomorrow of one of South Africa's most illustrious and major artists, Irma Stern.
The auctioneer, Strauss and Company says a few hundred bidders could participate in the auction titled: "Irma Stern: Time | Line, Works
from the Irma Stern Trust Collection and Other Properties".
Approximately 140 lots of Stern's drawings, sketches and paintings from 1920 to 1965 will go under the hammer at Welgemeend Manor in Gardens on Wednesday.
They say the auction presents starting and young collectors of works by South Africa's top female artist an opportunity to buy some of her lower price range artwork.
Stern, born of German/Jewish parents, lived in the Mother City for about 50 years and travelled Europe and Africa extensively.
