The ANC in the Western Cape legislature says the latest crime statistics paints a dire picture in the province.
The crime statistics released for January to March this year reveals that the murder rate went up by over 22% and rape increased by 13.7%.
In Cape Town, the Delft police station has
recorded the highest incidents of rape along with the Inanda Station in KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape's Lusikisiki police station.
ANC spokesperson on Community Safety, Mesuli Kama.: "What is required is an integrated approach which recognises that the work to fight crime is not only the police's responsibility.
It requires cooperation between all spheres of government - national, provincial and in the municipalities.
It also requires the involvement of the community and requires us to recognise the causative factors of crime."
