Three Suspects Arrested For Robbing Fibre Installers In Phoenix...
Three robbery suspects were arrested and various stolen items recovered when their vehicle was spotted travelling in the Phoenix area on Saturday afternoon.
Members of our Special Operations Team and SAPS Phoenix Trio Crimes Unit were alerted to a white Ford Ranger with no numberplates suspected to have been involved in
an armed robbery in Phoenix on Thursday, travelling on the R102 south bound in the Phoenix area.
All roleplayers immediately responded and the Ranger was brought to a stop in the vicinity of the Palm View intersection.
Three suspects exited the vehicle and upon searching them cellphones and various other items were recovered that they couldn't account for, including a cellphone and toolbox that had been taken in the armed robbery in Phoenix.
On Thursday morning at approximately 09h45, two employees from a telecommunications contractor were in the process of installing fibre along the R102 when a white Ford Ranger with tinted windows and missing a rear numberplate had pulled up in front of them.
Two suspects had alighted from the Ranger and proceeded to rob the two workers at gunpoint of a cellphone, toolbox and fibre installation equipment to the value of R90,000.
The suspects then fled the scene.
Fortunately the workers didn't sustain any injuries.
Further questioning of the suspects following their arrest led to their confession, and provided members with information that led to the recovery of several more construction tools in the KwaMashu G-Section.
All three suspects were detained at the Phoenix SAPS and were charged with being in possession of stolen property.
The SAPS will be investigating further as the suspects are believed to be linked to numerous other cases in the greater Durban area.
