Stellenbosch University (SU) says examinations have been postponed for a week following the trauma and disruption at its residedence, Huis Marais and a separate rape incident.
A first year law student is facing criminal charges of housebreaking, malicious damage to property and crimen injuria after he allegedly urinated on the belongings
of a Black student last weekend.
Earlier this week in a separate incident, a student was arrested on rape allegations.
Examinations scheduled to start on Monday the 23rd of May will now take place on the 30th of May.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Learning and Teaching Professor, Deresh Ramjugernath, says the decision was made in the best interests of students after consultation and careful deliberation: "All student leadership structures including the Student Representative Council and student societies had met as a group on Thursday evening.
The request for the assessment and examination re-scheduling had emerged from this meeting and was presented to the university on Friday morning .The student leadership had understood that not everyone had been affected to the same extent over the
last week but agreed that all students had been impacted."
