City embarks on drive to investigate and fix leaks on indigent-registered properties to prevent waste of water.
The City's Water and Sanitation Directorate is launching a R3,7 million leak repairs programme which is aimed at preventing water wastage by specifically assisting 2522 registered indigent households city-wide which have been identified to
have used more than 50 kilolitres of water a month.
The project starts today, 20 May 2022 and is scheduled to end on 30 June 2022.
As a caring city, the Directorate for Water and Sanitation is implementing this project to help our identified registered indigent households, which have not had a previous debt write-off, to prevent excessive use of water.
Customers who receive indigent benefits are advised that contractors will make arrangements to investigate whether there are leaks on the property which could be causing the excessive use.
If leaks are found, they will be fixed at no charge.
Residents can't apply for this leak-fixing benefit.
A total of 2522 properties have been identified for the leak-fixing programme based on the very high volumes
of water they use, which is more than fifty-thousand litres per month,' said Dr Zahid Badroodien, City of Cape Town MMC: Water and Sanitation Read more: https://bit.ly/3G5mRUt #CTNews
