The City's Mayoral Committee has this week approved the extension of the contract that will see a roll-out of a further 60 000 litter bins in various informal settlements across the City.
The distribution and installation of the bins started in Doornbach in May last year and teams are now giving
them out to Imizamo Yethu residents in Hout Bay.
At the Mayoral Committee meeting held on 17 May 2022, Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Waste Management, Alderman Grant Twigg tabled a report for an extension of the contract that will see the supply and delivery of about 60 000 litter bins to informal settlements.
These 80 litre bins will serve as temporary storage of domestic waste for the residents of informal settlements.
The budget for this is approximately R6 million and it includes the appointment of staff, purchase of bins and the material used for their installation.
The bins allow the residents to discard their waste just outside of their homes and provide for safe containment of waste and, therefore, positively impact on
the well-being of residents of the informal settlements.
