The Meiringspoort mountain pass on the N12 in the Garden Route of the Western Cape has been closed due to flooding.
The area has been experiencing heavy rainfall that has caused parts of the road to be covered by mud, tree stumps and other materials.
Western Cape Traffic spokesperson, Jandre Bakker: "Meiringspoort
on the N12 between Klaarstroom and De Rust is still closed to traffic following flooding in the area.The poort is being cleared.
Most of the alternative routes are gravel roads which cannot be used with trailers or caravans and is only restricted to light motor vehicles and SUVs.
We suggest the alternative route via Willowmore on the N9." PHOTOS: SUPPLIED
