The Western Cape Traffic Department says they are expecting high volumes of traffic on the roads this weekend.
Department spokesperson, Jandre Bakker, says this could be due to people travelling home following the festive season or going to the beach.
Bakker has urged road users to drive safely: "An increase in traffic
volumes brings with it an increased risk of road related incidents.
While our traffic law enforcement teams will be out in full force for your safety as always, we cannot do it alone and we need the support of each road user.
If you are a pedestrian wear bright and visible clothing, do not drink and walk near traffic.
If you are driving, rest before and during long journeys at least every two hours.
Only overtake where it is lawful and safe to do so."
